Toowoomba Regional Council today (December 17) resolved to invite a shortlist of three companies to submit a tender for the next stage of Council’s New Energy Generation Project.
Toowoomba Region Mayor Paul Antonio said Council was pleased with the level of interest shown by prospective firms following the launch of the procurement process in November.
“It is an exciting time for Council with a number of companies submitting an Expression of Interest in the project,” Mayor Antonio said.
“This clearly indicates there is keen market interest to use Council’s assets to generate electricity.
“Council is keen to explore the opportunities that successful tenderers might offer to the organisation, including the reduction of our energy costs.
“Council is aware that the technology offered as part of this project could deliver environmental benefits.
“In addition, any excess energy that is generated could be used by Council facilities or fed back to the grid for community use. These are options that can be explored later in any potential project.
“I’m pleased to see the project is progressing following a Council resolution approving the project in July this year.
“If the project proceeds to delivery phase, Council will pursue commercially based competitive processes to ensure a strong outcome for the Toowoomba Region community.”
