Over the past week Lithgow Council have closed the Wolgan Road under the direction of the NSW RFS, this has been for a number of reasons, primarily, due to the risk of fire impact and more recently the risk of road failure and debris falling on the road. We understand the implications of this closure and the impact it has on the local residents. We appreciate that supplies are starting to run short and people need to leave the valley for a number of other reasons, therefore we are implementing a plan that will allow escorted access and egress for residents.
Lithgow Council vehicles will be escorting resident in and out of the valley from 10am to 11am and then again from 4pm to 5pm. This will allow residents to leave and return during those periods. It must be stressed that this is for residents only and all other people will be turned around at the check point.
Anybody leaving the valley needs to consider that conditions may change without notice that necessitate the complete closure of the road, as you can appreciate this may be an urgent matter and therefore residents need to be prepared that they may not be able to get back into the valley if this occurs.
The Lithgow Council representatives will be collecting some information from residents that use the opportunity to leave the valley, this information will be used to assist in contacting residents for fire related information.
