The upcoming filming next year of a feature movie ‘The Legend of the Dancing Dragon’ uses the "Dragon Dance Culture" in Yangzhong, China as an entry point, and tells the story of the long-standing cultural exchange between China and Australia.

Screen writer Mr JiPing Fan said ‘The Legend of the Dancing Dragon’ is the fruit of cultural exchanges and cooperation between the sister cities Livingstone and Yangzhong.

“The making of the movie will provide a unique opportunity for both Livingstone and Yangzhong to deepen their understanding of each other’s cultural traditions and social features.

“Cooperation and exchanges between sister cities are of great significance and Yangzhong appreciated the way that Livingstone stepped out of Australia to show China a rich Australian perspective.

“Through this movie Yangzhong will have an opportunity to reciprocate by showing Australia's beautiful cultural tourism resources and attractions.

“Positively reflecting and promoting the beautiful Capricorn Coast to the Chinese people will enhance the emotional exchange and cultural interaction between the two peoples.

“It is also hoped that the Australian people will in turn gain a similar deeper understanding of Chinese culture including our Dragon Dance Culture,” Mr Fan said.

The movies Director, Mr Xi Jiang, said in the storyline, the movie tells how a beautiful young woman from Yeppoon meets and becomes friends with a handsome young Chinese man from Yangzhong who is doing research at an Australian University.

“Later, they meet again in China where the young Chinese man is performing in an international Dragon Dance competition in Yangzhong City. The friendship is renewed and the couple fall in love,” Mr Xi said.

“Without giving too much away, the romantic story will have plenty of fun and adventure as the young man travels to Australia to meet the young woman’s family in Yeppoon.”

Livingstone Shire Mayor Bill Ludwig said this was an exciting opportunity for cultural exchange with our sister city of Yangzhong, as well as showcasing Livingstone Shire and our region to the massive China and broader Asian tourism markets.

“Council wishes the production team every success with ‘The Legend of the Dancing Dragon’ and will endeavour to provide every possible support to facilitate the film crew when they arrive to film the Australian scenes in late April and early May next year,” Mayor Ludwig said.
