Council would like to advise the public that, although there are insufficient water allocations to fill
and maintain the water levels within Gum Bend Lake this summer, Council is committed to
keeping the surrounding area maintained.
Despite the drought conditions, Council will continue to maintain the freedom camping area and
the area around the amenities, BBQ’s and play equipment. The area will continue to be
available for visitors and locals regardless of the lake water levels.
Council expects there will be some campers and locals visiting Gum Bend during summer so
the area will be maintained for their benefit as an area of green space to be enjoyed for
recreation purposes.
Mayor John Medcalf OAM said, “Council continues to look for opportunities to obtain a
permanent water allocation for the lake and recognises the important tourism and economic
benefits the lake facility brings to Condobolin and the Lachlan Shire.”
