Ballarat (City) 19 Dec 2019

It’s not long now until the Ballarat Botanical Gardens transforms into a hotbed of music with the Summer Sundays concert series. Held over the first three Sundays of January, Summer Sundays has become one of our city’s much-loved events.

This week it was announced that triple j artist Ali Barter and Meraki Minds will open the first Summer Sundays concert on 5 January. They will be followed by indie-rock group Purr Usual (12 January) and legendary rock musician, writer and front man of the band You Am I, Tim Rogers (19 January).

Along with the wonderful music, there will be an eclectic range of food trucks and drinks provided by Blue Pyrenees Estate Winery and Kilderkin Distillery.

Whether you come for the music, the gelato, or the chance to catch up with friends, make sure you put each date in your calendar as you don’t want to miss out on this great community event.

Live music has always formed a vital part of Ballarat’s cultural and economic life, and as Council we want to nurture our live music scene. If you would like to see what else we’re doing to support live music, I suggest you take a look at the Live Music Strategy in our Creative City Strategy, which you can find on the City of Ballarat website.

We are a city full of great ideas, collaboration and innovation, and because of this, we are asking for all your input into the Draft Interpretation Plan for the Eureka Centre and Eureka Stockade Memorial Park.

The Plan sets a new vision and a guide on how we interpret, share and commemorate the Eureka story, as well as enhance the values of the National Heritage listed Eureka Stockade Memorial Park, the purported site of the Eureka Stockade.

Eureka is one of Ballarat’s enduring foundation stories. The bold vision for equality and justice that the miner’s stood together to defend in 1854 forged the very character of Australian democracy.

We are committed to making the Eureka Centre and Park a respected cultural attraction that draws people to Ballarat. If you have an interest in the Eureka Story, we want to hear from you. The survey will be open on the mysay website until February 2020, with opportunities to share feedback in person in the new year.
