Condolences to Rural Fire Service

Fairfield City Mayor Frank Carbone has expressed his deep sadness over the news that two volunteer firefighters from the Horsley Park brigade tragically lost their lives overnight.
The firefighters were bravely fighting fires near Buxton when the firetruck they were traveling in collided with a tree and rolled over.
Firefighter Geoffrey Keaton, 32, joined the RFS in 2006. He is the Deputy Captain of the Horsley Park Rural Fire Brigade. Firefighter Andrew O’Dwyer, 36, joined the RFS in 2003.
Three other firefighters were injured.
“Council’s deepest condolences go to the family, friends and fellow rural firefighters of these two brave men in this terribly sad time,” Mayor Carbone said.
“These men gave their lives fighting to save the lives and property of others. They exemplify true courage and heroism. Our thoughts and prayers go to their loved ones.
“We also wish the three injured firefighters a very speedy recovery.”
“Our hearts go out to the families and the whole RFS community at this sad time, and we deeply appreciate the hard work of all firefighters who put their lives on the line to keep our communities safe,” Mayor Carbone said.
Council will fly its flags at half mast today, Friday 20 December, in honour of Mr Keaton and Mr O’Dwyer.
