From City of Ballarat Director Infrastructure and Environment Terry Demeo:
The estate was designed to achieve an open rural feel, given its extensive block sizes, and was supported by open swale drains as opposed to concrete kerb and channel and underground drainage, which is the infrastructure installed in convention subdivisions.
While the drains generally perform in an acceptable manner in the flatter terrain, on the steeper slopes there has been erosion and dilapidation of these drains. City of Ballarat's program is to undertake rock beaching and other remedial treatment on the steeper sloping terrain and to further address other areas in the drainage network which have been impacted over time. The installation of a full kerb and channel type solution is not a feasible solution given the extensive allotment sizes and would in and of itself significantly change the character of this village which has attracted a very vibrant population since its development.
