In a Council first, the ranger team will now be getting out and about on bicycles.
Getting rangers on bikes is one of the ways that council hopes to better connect with the community to encourage responsible pet management.
Cr Mark McDonald said that the new bikes were about making our rangers more accessible.
“While on bikes, the rangers will be available to answer any questions the public might have, as well as be on the lookout for a variety of pet management issues,” he said.
Some of the issues the rangers will be on the lookout for will be unregistered dogs, people not cleaning up after their dogs, and dogs that are off leash in areas where they are required to be on a lead.
Cr McDonald said that, as a starting point, the team were looking to take the bikes to places like the Tin Can Bay foreshore, the Mary Valley Rail Trail, and the River to Rail Trail.
“We are excited about the impact this will have on our community,” said Cr McDonald.
“And if you see one of our rangers on bikes, please stop and say hello.”
