It’s official, the Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre is ready for business after an official opening by Minister for Local Government, Stirling Hinchliffe and Mayor of the Gympie region Mick Curran on Saturday.
“Kilkivan is home to the Great Horse Ride and for as long as I can remember, this area has been known for its strong equestrian culture,” Councillor Curran said.
“Saturday’s event was very well supported by the community and as I said on the weekend, this facility will provide an avenue for growth for the Kilkivan community.
“It will attract competitors from outside this region, it will stimulate the Kilkivan economy and it will allow for the many talented local riders to train and compete closer to home,” Cr Curran said.
The Kilkivan Showgrounds and Equestrian Centre cost $2.36 million with $1,075,089 coming from the Queensland Government’s Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program.
“I would like to formally acknowledge the significant contribution of the Queensland Government to this project,” Cr Curran said.
“This vital funding has allowed us to build a facility which generations of riders will utilise and the community can enjoy.”
The Kilkivan showgrounds and equestrian centre is now open for use. For all booking enquiries phone 5481 0496 or email [email protected]. Bookings are free of charge until 1 July 2020.
