Residents now have more time to have their say on The Gong Improvement and Rehabilitation Project with an extension of 31 January.
The proposed works would see the reinforcement of the dam wall at The Gong, Buninyong Botanic Gardens, which runs underneath a section of Cornish Street at the lake’s western edge.
The plans will be available online at the City of Ballarat’s mySay website and on display at Buninyong Town Hall until Friday 31 January.
The project has been developed following an engineering assessment of the wall carried out earlier this year after seepage was observed downstream of The Gong. The assessment found that strengthening and stabilising works were needed to stop the seepage and ensure the wall remained strong in the long term. The proposed work consists of construction of a filter layer, raising the western wall by 500mm, the construction of rock embankment upstream of the wall and upgrading the outlet of the dam.
Following community consultation, the works are expected to be undertaken in 2020.
MySay feedback site will remain open until 5pm on January 31, 2020.
