Since Monday 11 November 2019, Level Four water restrictions have applied in Boggabilla, Mungindi and Weemelah.
Water levels and consumption have been closely monitored across all towns within the Moree Plains Shire and in particular, Boggabilla, Mungindi and Weemelah. Moree Plains Shire Council applauds the efforts of community members in these localities who have been diligently reducing their water consumption to satisfy these restrictions.
In recent times, water in Mungindi has been sourced from both the river and the artesian bore, with the supply from the river ever diminishing during this prolonged dry season.
Council has undertaken a number of urgent infrastructure upgrades to allow a more significant amount of artesian water to supplement the river supply for Mungindi’s town water supply. This has included additional pipework, electrical upgrades and the installation of a cooling tower. The water is treated to provide Mungindi residents and businesses with a potable water supply.
Council’s General Manager Lester Rodgers thanked Mungindi community members for their patience whilst the appropriate infrastructure was located within Australia and installed to allow greater quantities of artesian water to be cooled and treated.
At the present time, Level 4 water restrictions remain in place for Mungindi, Boggabilla and Weemelah. Council will continue to monitor water levels across all towns closely and take further action if necessary to ensure water supply is preserved.
Mungindi residents are urged to contact Council’s Customer Service Centre on (02) 6757 3222 with any queries.
