In an aim to reduce Bayside’s energy usage during peak periods, network distributor United Energy is paying households for reducing their energy usage behaviours in times of high electricity demand (typically +35 degree days). The program is running now, up until March 31, 2020.
Last year 138 Bayside residents signed up and earned an average of $246 per household over the summer.

Tips on reducing your electricity consumption during peak periods
● Pre-cool your home before a hot day; ● Set air conditioners between 24 and 26 degrees; ● Close off rooms that aren’t in use, don’t need to be cooled, or can be cooled following an event; ● Close blinds to keep the cool air in; ● Turn off appliances that aren’t being used at the powerpoint; ● Avoid using dishwashers, washing machines or dryer during an event; ● If you own a pool, switch off the pump, chlorinator, and any cleaning equipment; ● Make sure all non-essential lighting is off; ● Avoid opening the fridge too often; ● Plan an outing during the event; and ● Visit a friend or relative.
Please note that appliances essential to people’s well-being should remain on.
