Council currently has bushfire Emergency Relief Centres open at:
• Bairnsdale City Oval
• Bairnsdale Racecourse (please register at the City Oval)
• Omeo Recreation Reserve
The Lakes Entrance Relief Centre has now closed and will operate as a recovery/information centre out of the Lakes Entrance Service Centre from 8am to 6pm, commencing Thursday 2 January.
There are also assembly areas at Orbost, Mallacoota and Cann River.
Large animals can also be taken to the East Gippsland Livestock Exchange, at 11 Saleyards Rd, Bairnsdale.
For those leaving East Gippsland completely, there is also an Emergency Relief Centre established by Wellington Shire Council at the Sale Baptist Church, Princes Hwy, Sale (near the Cobains Rd intersection)
The best possible scenario is always relocating to the homes of family or friends, but sometimes that isn’t possible. These centres are being run by Council staff and also have representatives from the Department of Health and Human Services, the Red Cross, Victoria Police and the Salvation Army.
People in affected areas are encouraged to register with the Red Cross at Register.Find.Reunite or by calling 1800 277 077. Use 'Register' to let people know you are safe.
Use 'Find' to look for people you know may be affected by an emergency.
