Sunraysia’s PC gamers can pit their skills against the best in the region at Council’s Mildura LAN Party this month.
To be held on Friday 17 January in the Benetook Room of the Alfred Deakin Centre, this all-day event starts at 9am and will run through until midnight, providing hours of gaming, as well as the chance for the winning team to walk away with $150 per member. There will also be giveaways throughout the day.
Councillor for Community Wellbeing and Services Gavin Sedgmen said the event was open to people aged 16 to 25 and will be run in partnership with Tech Lab and Council’s Youth Services.
Participants will compete across three games throughout the day - Counter Strike Global Offensive, League of Legends and Rainbow Six Siege. Participants can also choose not to be a part of the tournament and spend the time playing their game(s) of choice.
A drug, smoke and alcohol-free FReeZA event, the Mildura LAN Party is $20 to enter, which will include food and snacks throughout the day/night, lunch and dinner, and is a not for profit event. Gamers can bring their own snacks if they wish.
Gamers wishing to take part in the event need to bring:
desktop PC or laptop monitor (no bigger than 34”) keyboard, mouse, mousepad, power cables, video cables and headphones money for additional food and snacks if they wish (snacks, dinner and lunch are covered in the entry fee)Cr Sedgmen said the event was a great way for young people interested in gaming to compete in a fun environment, meet new people and escape the summer heat.
“Gaming is an increasingly popular pastime not just for young people in our region, but globally, with international e-sports events held across a range of genres,” he said.
“Our Youth Services team has provided a way for young people to get involved at a local level.”
