Bluestone gutters are a significant part of Ballarat’s heritage and history.

The City of Ballart has a stockpile of bluestone from former projects where materials have had to be removed, and as such has not had to source bluestone pitchers.

In recent years the City has used cut bluestone banding in its Sturt Street footpaths, and this is a readily sourced market product.

The only major bluestone resource that the City may potentially go to market with, is from its former Saleyards site, which has acres of bluestone. However, the advice the City has been given is that given the history of the facility, where the bluestone has been located under stock for 100 years, it is impregnated to a point where when wet, will have a urea odour.
