Stage 2 of duplication works on Cherry Flat Road has started. The $1.5 million project has been funded by the Ballarat West Development Contributions Plan.
Located to the south of Valiant Road, the works will include 300m of new road pavement, kerb and channel, new footpaths, minor drainage works, nature strip and tree planting.
The project is in line with VicRoads Keeping Ballarat Moving commitment and will see the removal of the roundabout at the Cherry Flat Road, Glenelg Highway and Wilshire Lane intersection. It is expected the new road will improve traffic safety and pedestrian connections across this intersection.
Cherry Flat Road duplication works will be delivered by Ballarat-based construction firm Fulton Hogan, on behalf of the City of Ballarat, and is expected to be completed by March 2020.
City of Ballarat Mayor Ben Taylor said the road would be an important asset to current and future residents in the Ballarat West Growth Area.
“This project is demonstrable of the enormous change that is progressing across Ballarat West with Cherry Flat Road going from a rural road to a fully urbanised interface.”
“With the Delacombe town centre needing to be capitalised and the planned residential expansion to the immediate south of the centre, the upgrade was identified by Council as an appropriate commitment for development contributions funds.”
"As Ballarat is growing, we need to be able to accommodate the transport needs of our region both now and into the future."
