Blacktown residents and businesses can now make online and ‘over the counter’ cash donations to the Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal.
Blacktown City Mayor Tony Bleasdale, OAM this week launched the Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal as part of Council’s response to the fires that have devastated so much of NSW.
“Our residents have already been donating non-perishable, packaged foodstuffs and personal hygiene items at our libraries and at Council’s Administration Centre and those donations will be distributed to the victims of the fires,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
“Charities and the Rural Fire Service have told us that donating money is now the best way people can help during this emergency,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
Council has now established the Blacktown City Council Bushfire Appeal account.
Residents can donate money to the Appeal through their online banking facility by EFT (electronic funds transfer).
Residents can also make ‘over the counter’ cash donations to the Bushfire Appeal at Council’s Administration Centre in Blacktown.
In other developments, Blacktown City Council’s Animal Holding Facility is always available to provide care and shelter for animals, including livestock. If Council resources are requested in this area, arrangements can be made to provide additional shelter locally.
Council has been advised that the NSW Department of Primary Industries has set up a telephone hotline and information website to provide assistance to fire affected landholders with emergency fodder and water, animal care, livestock or animal assessment.
“Meanwhile, Blacktown City Council stands ready to assist fellow councils that have been smashed by the disastrous fires,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
The NSW Government has establish the Local Government Bushfire Recovery Support Group to enable councils not affected by the bushfires to provide assistance, resource sharing and temporary relief staff to councils in need.
“Being the largest council in NSW and being part of that support group, we are in a good position to provide vehicles, machinery and relief staff to the recovery effort,” Mayor Bleasdale said.
“We have already been in discussions with our fellow WSROC partners (Western Sydney Regional Organisation of Councils) Blue Mountains, Lithgow and Hawkesbury.
“Council has compiled a list of vehicles, machinery and staff members that are available now and in the future for the bushfire response and recovery operations.”
