The Federal Government announced yesterday that it will provide an immediate payment to 42 bushfire impacted Councils in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland to help quickly rebuild vital infrastructure and strengthen community resilience. The total funding package amounts to $60m, with Wollondilly to receive $1m.
Mayor Matthew Deeth said “On behalf of the community, I want to thank the Federal Government and our local member, Angus Taylor, for cutting the red tape and getting this disaster relief money on the ground as fast as possible. The money will be directed towards Council’s emergency response and recovery efforts.”
“We will ensure that these funds are put towards initiatives and projects that help us respond, rebuild, and recover. It will be a long road ahead so this assistance is greatly appreciated”.
“This is about getting the money out and utilised where it is needed the most. We’ll be working hard to make sure our community is back on its feet as soon as possible.”
