More than $1600 in donations collected during the most recent free green waste disposal and free mulch giveaway will support to people through a registered disability service provider.
Cairns Mayor Bob Manning today (13 January) presented $1,658 in donations to the Endeavour Foundation.
“We are pleased to be able to make this donation on behalf of residents to this important community service,” Cr Manning said.
“The Endeavour Foundation provides a vital service to a great many people in our community with a disability, helping them to be a part of the workforce and gain confidence and independence.”
The Endeavour Foundation is an NDIS registered disability service provider.
Darryl Barber, Endeavour Foundation General Manager for Work, said the organisation supported more than 100 people in the Cairns region with an intellectual disability across community, work and home services.
“We operate a centrally located learning and lifestyle hub and a number of supported independent living properties across Cairns,” Mr Barber said.
“Endeavour Foundation operates Business Solutions sites in Cairns and Mareeba where supported employees with disability are employed under the Commonwealth Government’s Australian Disability Enterprise program.
“We believe everybody has the right to work in a role that is tailored to their abilities, and to have the satisfaction of completing a good day’s work if they choose to.
“We are grateful to Cairns Regional Council for their generous donation which will help us provide important services for Cairns locals with disability so they can continue to learn life skills, live independently and gain meaningful employment.”
The voluntary donations were collected at the gate of each of Cairns Regional Council’s waste transfer stations during the free green waste drop-off from 12-20 October and the mulch giveaway in November.
Smithfield waste transfer station topped the donation tally with $668.80 dropped into the tin. Babinda produced the highest rate of donations per person, with $106.60 donated in 100 visits to the transfer station.
