Huon Valley Council is delighted to announce that our Australia Day Ambassador for this year is Tasmanian Australian of the Year 2010 Deborah De Williams AM.
An ultra-marathon world record holder, Deborah is best known for running in pink. She was the first woman to walk and then run around Australia in 2004 and 2010 respectively, raising money for charity along the way.
Having overcome many obstacles in life including breast cancer, family violence, and the loss of her husband, Deborah has made it her mission to inspire and empower individuals to embrace their battle scars and love the life they live as a master coach and mentor.
A gifted keynote speaker, Deborah’s ability to regale her painful and sometimes funny stories from her own life challenges with honesty and passion leaves audiences both inspired and moved.
Deborah is a passionate cancer campaigner and her personal story of triumph and hope whilst running around Australia is documented in the book Running Pink: Deborah De Williams’ Inspiring Story.
Deborah will be at the Huon Valley’s ‘Breakfast in the Park’ event happening on 26 January to take part in celebrations and give an address, and assist Mayor Bec Enders in delivering the Australia Day Awards and Citizenship Ceremony.
