Exhibition period extended on Draft Cessnock Local Strategic Planning Statement

Residents now have more time to provide feedback on the Draft Cessnock Local Strategic Planning Statement (LSPS) which will now be on exhibition until Friday 28 February 2020.  

The LSPS is a requirement of the NSW Government and will set out the 20 year vision for land use in the Cessnock Local Government Area (LGA).  

In an effort to gain as much community feedback and input into the LSPS as possible, Council has held a number of community drop-in sessions across the LGA with the aim of advising the community of the priorities of the LSPS and answering any questions residents may have.  

The upcoming sessions include Thursday 16 January between 2pm - 5pm at the Cessnock City Centre, (near Coles) and Friday 17 January between 5pm – 6:30pm at the Wollombi Tennis Club.  

Cessnock City Mayor, Councillor Bob Pynsent said we’ve extended to the exhibition period after listening to local residents.   “We know it’s been a busy and stressful time for many. Not only due to it being the holiday period but due to the bush fires. We encourage those who are yet to have their say to take the time to provide feedback.”  

“Council will also be taking this opportunity to review the draft document to ensure it fully considers planning for environmental impacts into the future, following the catastrophic fire incident over the Christmas period.”  

The decision has also been made to remove the Dwelling Entitlement from consideration as part of the LSPS. Dwelling Entitlement will be considered separately at a later date allowing the community to provide feedback. Additional community consultation will be undertaken on this section of the plan.  

Once adopted, the LSPS will replace the City Wide Settlement Strategy 2010 which is currently the primary document guiding land use planning and growth across the region.  

For Cessnock, the LSPS will also assist in the implementation of actions set out in the Hunter Regional Plan (HRP), Greater Newcastle Metropolitan Plan (GNMP) and Council’s own priorities as set out in the Cessnock Community Strategic Plan (CSP).
