Official Media Release from the Office of Wendy Tuckerman Monday, 16 December 2019
Locally initiated community arts and cultural development projects in Moss Vale, Goulburn and Yass have been supported by new investment of $10,921 in the latest round of the NSW Government’s Country Arts Support Program (CASP).
Member for Goulburn Wendy Tuckerman and Minister for the Arts Don Harwin announced that three local recipients will benefit from a share of $261,645 across regional NSW from the small grant fund aimed at supporting and improving the quality, reach and strength of short-term activities.
Mrs Tuckerman said that the funding is a welcome boost for locally-led activities, with benefits for the whole community.
“As well as keeping our creative locals motivated, this funding drives economic and employment benefits for the area and will increase arts and cultural participation across the region. I’m delighted that the Goulburn electorate is sharing in this investment.”
Moss Vale’s CMS Productions Ltd will be hosting PRIMA FACIE - a gripping, award-winning, one-woman play by Suzie Miller, starring Sheridan Harbridge, produced by Griffin Theatre Company. The work examines the shortcomings of the Australian legal system in regard to justice for women in rape, and sexual assault and harassment cases. Goulburn Liedertafel Inc will be hosting Journey Through Country - a new Australian play at the Lieder Theatre 7-17 October 2020 for 'Goulburn 2020', a regional community commemoration marking 1820 and the start of a new wave of migration through the Goulburn region acknowledging and respecting First Nations people's enduring custodianship. Tootsie Gallery Cafe will be hosting Kiri Morcombe Cultural Textile Masterclasses - five culturally diverse textile masterclasses, focusing on Iranian, Maori, Pacific Lao Chinese and Indigenous techniques. As an exchange with Parramatta Artists Studios (PAS), two Southern Tablelands based textile artists will be offered residency at Parramatta Artists Studios.Minister for the Arts Don Harwin said that the funding also helps to increase the sustainability and resilience of regionally-based community arts organisations and drive access and participation for local audiences.
“I’m delighted that this initiative helps to inspire creative communities to generate new opportunities that open up their talents to local audiences.
“Supporting local arts and cultural groups helps to drive their profiles and in doing so allows audiences the opportunity to enjoy and share a more diverse range of cultural identities.
The CASP fund is a devolved grants program administered each year by Regional Arts NSW on behalf of Create NSW.
Grants of up to $5,000 are available primarily for professional artists’ fees, travel and accommodation, with applications assessed by 14 regionally-based panels coordinated by the local Regional Arts Boards.
