Bring your friends to the Gympie Regional Gallery this Friday 17 January at 6pm and celebrate the opening of our two newest exhibitions.
One of the exhibitions on display is The Dance Goes On by local artist Sally Spencer.
Sally's major retrospective displays fragments from past installations shown extensively in the regional galleries in Queensland.
Sally graduated from Art College in London in 1967 as a sculptor, and started on installations in 1987, incorporating movement though working with dancers.
Using clay as the major part of her practice, Sally explores symbolism as a powerful way of conveying ideas and meaning.
Paper, Scissors, Rock is also on display and is a collection of works on paper by Canberra-based artist Julie Bradley which draws on the rich layers of meaning and symbolism associated with stones.
Within different cultures, stones have been used to represent permanence and strength, to celebrate and memorialise as well as express love and hate.
Using the techniques of stencilling, collage and drawing, Julie creates works which express aspects of an emotional landscape and states of being.
The evening will include a special presentation by Dr. Tamsin Kerr and refreshments will be served.
Entry to the Gympie Regional Gallery at 39 Nash Street is free, with opening hours from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday.
