Tenders have been invited for the design and construction of Toowoomba Regional Council’s (TRC) newest CBD pedestrian walkway and multi-functional public space at 174 Margaret Street.
TRC Environment and Community Committee Chair, Cr Geoff McDonald said Carnival Lane would provide a convenient thoroughfare between the CBD and longer-term car parking and retailers.
“Named in recognition of our Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers, the laneway will be a safe, vibrant and welcoming pedestrian connection and community meeting place for workers, shoppers and visitors to our city,” Cr McDonald said.
“Carnival Lane will provide green space, public art, equitable access for people of all abilities and weather protection.
“The laneway will also provide a space for community events.
“The project, which is part of Council’s Laneway Strategy for the CBD and the overarching Toowoomba City Centre Masterplan, will realise a vision to transform this area of the CBD.
“This is a significant project for Toowoomba and Council encourages construction businesses based in the Toowoomba Region to submit a tender application.”
Tenders close at 2.00 pm on Tuesday 4 February 2020. Tenders can be lodged electronically via the LG Tender Box or in hard copy via the Tender Box, Toowoomba Regional Council, 4 Little Street, Toowoomba, QLD, 4350.
Tender responses will be evaluated in early February 2020, and the successful tender is expected to be awarded from late February 2020.
Construction is expected to start in May 2020, and the new laneway is expected to open in time for the Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers in September 2020.
