As part of the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program, Toowoomba Regional Council (TRC) will begin construction on the Perth and Cohoe Street intersection upgrade project on Monday 20 January 2020 with completion expected in May 2020 (weather permitting).

The upgrade will include a number of partial and temporary closures of the intersection throughout the works.

Toowoomba Regional Council Chair of Infrastructure Committee, Cr Carol Taylor said the project that includes the construction of a new roundabout, drainage upgrades, improved street lighting and pedestrian facilities at the intersection.

“Council is grateful for the funding that has been provided through the Australian Government’s Black Spot Program to upgrade the intersection and improve safety for the local community. 

Cr Taylor said that during the construction period, traffic management and detours would be in place for the safety of crews and motorists. Pedestrian access past the intersection would be maintained.

“There may be a requirement to undertake some weekend and night works. Council will seek to minimise disruptions where possible.

“Council asks the community to please drive to conditions and be aware that temporary changes to traffic flow will occur.

“Construction work will take place generally between the hours of 6.30 am – 6.30 pm on weekdays and we apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience during construction.”

“The Australian Government provides funding through the Black Spot Program to reduce the incidents of crashes on local roads.
