Heritage trail and garden plans endorsed

A heritage trail linking the newly upgraded Greenpatch camping grounds to Gordonvale, along with concept plans for the Mill Gardens, have been endorsed by Council.

The pedestrian trail connecting Norman Park in Gordonvale to Greenpatch will include landscaping, seating and a range of interpretive signs showcasing the history of Gordonvale.

The Mill Gardens – located adjacent to the Gordonvale Railway Station, on the south side of the station and the eastern side of Mill St – would include landscaping, seating, pathways, viewing area of the Mulgrave Mill and interpretive signage showcasing the history of the mill and the sugar production process.

It would also incorporate the historic entry gates to the Mulgrave Mill – known as the Draper Gates – which would act as a prominent entry point for the heritage trail to Greenpatch.

The project aims to highlight the history of Gordonvale through indigenous culture and heritage, pioneers who were significant to the development of the town, the Mulgrave Mill and the surrounding landscape, and World War II significance.

The project is expected to be $870,000, with the State Government to provide $600,000 through the Works for Queensland program, and Mulgrave Mill has committed $200,000 for the relocating of the entry gates and contribution to the development of the Mill Gardens.
