The Burns Point Ferry operates continuously from 5.30am to 12.30am daily except for Christmas Day where the ferry closes at 12.00noon. Also, the ferry closes for maintenance on the second Tuesday of each month from 9.00 am to 12 noon.
Scheduled Maintenance WeeklyThe Ferry is regularly inspected and there may be wear parts like cable guide rollers which are replaced on-the-run, and this causes unplanned and very short periods of delays.
MonthlyThe Ferry is closed for regular maintenance on the second Tuesday of each month between 9am and 12 noon.
AnnualThe ferry is put into dry dock for regular maintenance and will resume annual maintenance from 2021. It is necessary to put the ferry into slip to carry out mechanical and welding repairs plus give the ferry hull a blast and repaint. The slip dates are pre-arranged to coincide with suitable tides around the Wardell bridge and available dock facilities.
Unscheduled closuresThe ferry may also close due to extreme weather conditions or for unexpected breakdowns. For updates on the ferry service status visit myroadinfo.com.au
