People with disability can now attend and enjoy major community events in Canterbury- Bankstown, following the delivery of a fully accessible and portable amenities facility.

Mayor Khal Asfour said Council took ownership of the Marveloo this month, after it was constructed in Victoria with the assistance of funding from the NSW Government.

“We trialled the new facility at the recent Carols in the Park at Wiley Park and it was well received,” he said.

“Marveloo’s design provides carers with peace of mind that facilities will be available to cater for the needs of their loved ones in a safe, comfortable and dignified manner.

“It is important to cater for the entire community, because we don’t want anyone missing out on exciting occasions and events we stage in our City.

“The Marveloo will be present at a number of upcoming events in Canterbury-Bankstown, with the medium to long-term intention to enable the community to hire it for its activities.”

The Marveloo’s features include:

A fully accessible toilet;Overhead ceiling hoist;Adjustable adult change table;Air conditioning; andAn access ramp.

Sue Huxtable-Jones from Disability Services Australia said everyone has the right to access and the Marveloo is providing just that.

“It gives people the opportunity to enjoy social events where they may not have had the opportunity to attend before,” she said.

“Having the hoist and adjustable changing table is very future-thinking, catering for adults not just children.

“Something like this gives them the opportunity to feel comfortable, and it means people are not isolated and can enjoy what everybody else enjoys.”
