People living in the Western Downs know it’s the best region in Queensland to live and now even more people will have the opportunity to learn what makes the region great, after Western Downs Regional Council teamed up with Shell’s QGC business to develop a set of comprehensive welcome guides and online community directory.

The welcome guides and directory are targeted at people thinking about a tree change to the Western Downs, giving them all the information and local knowledge needed to make the call on where their new home should be.

The welcome guides and online community directory will benefit those considering relocating to the Western Downs, arming them with all the information and local knowledge needed to make an informed decision about where they’d like to live.

Spokesperson for Community and Cultural Development Councillor Kaye Maguire said town-specific individual welcome guides had been developed for each of the Western Downs’ six main regional centres, while the online community directory, known as My Community Directory will cover the entire region.

“This means that people who are thinking of relocating to Wandoan, for example, will find information specific to the town of Wandoan, as well as general information about living in the Western Downs region,” she said.

“Information for new and future residents include commonly searched topics such as what schools and community facilities are available, local community groups and services in the towns plus digital information such as hero videos featuring people who have recently relocated.

“Hearing about people’s experiences in a new town can help others feel more comfortable about settling into the community, or even during the early stages of considering a move.”

The Welcome guides over Chinchilla, Dalby, Jandowae, Miles, Tara and Wandoan and will be available as hard copy printed guides from Council’s offices, the libraries, visitor information centres, key businesses including Shell QGC local community outlets from Australia Day onwards, while the electronic version of the Welcome guides, the hero videos, and access to the My Community Directory will be available to download from Council’s website from 24 January 2020.
