The City of Wanneroo is reminding motorists to be safe and courteous when parking on suburban streets.
Wanneroo Mayor Tracey Roberts said parking on footpaths was illegal, dangerous and inconsiderate of others.
“It is disappointing that the City needs to issue this reminder due to an increase in reports of people parking vehicles and boats across footpaths,” Mayor Roberts said.
“Parking on a footpath might seem like a minor transgression, but it can cause major problems for pedestrians, particularly those with disabilities or people pushing prams.
“In some cases, when access to footpaths is completely blocked, pedestrians are forced to walk on the road, which can be dangerous.
“I urge drivers to please be considerate of other people and ensure their vehicle is not parked on or over a footpath.”
Mayor Roberts said the penalty for parking on footpaths as well as other parking breaches was a $100 fine. However, when possible, the City’s rangers will caution people and give them an opportunity to move their vehicles.
