Traffic advice during Hanging Rock events

Published on 17 January 2020

Three major events will bring Hanging Rock to life during the January long weekend from January 25 to January 27.

Traffic will be heavy on the roads around Hanging Rock Reserve during this time, with some altered traffic arrangements in place.

On Saturday 25 January and Sunday 26 January, Sir Elton John will perform concerts as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road world tour and on Monday 27 January, the Kyneton and Hanging Rock Racing Club will hold the Hanging Rock Cup.

During the Elton John concerts on 26 January and 27 January, Hanging Rock will be closed to the public. There will be altered traffic access on some roads and on the roads from Woodend to Hanging Rock.

Traffic will be particularly heavy from 2pm to 5pm and from 11pm to 1am around the reserve, and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

Concertgoers being dropped off, or picked up afterwards should use the designated drop-off/pick-up point. Alternatively, attendees can take the shuttle service from Woodend and be dropped off or collected from Woodend.

Concertgoers should not leave the venue on foot, or walk away from the reserve as the roads are busy and there are no footpaths.

There will be no stopping or parking on the roads around Hanging Rock and there is no public parking in surrounding streets or roads, particularly in residential areas.

Fines may apply for illegally parked vehicles.

There is no camping allowed at Hanging Rock Reserve and fines may apply for camping or sleeping in cars within the Hanging Rock area.

Leaving vehicles unattended after 1am in the Hanging Rock area may risk towing and fines.

To avoid the risk of penalties, Council advises organising a designated driver and car-pooling. Private vehicles with four or more passengers can park free.

On Monday 27 January, gates will open at 11am for the Hanging Rock Cup. The Hanging Rock Reserve is open to the public but altered entry conditions and fees apply. Public entry is via the Hanging Rock main entrance on South Rock Road. For more event information, visit Australia Day Weekend Races
