Burnie Australia Day award recipients announced

As part of the annual Burnie Australia Day ceremony, outstanding local community members and groups are presented the prestigious Burnie Australia Day Awards for Citizen, Senior Citizen, Young Citizen and Community Event of the Year.
The 2020 City of Burnie Australia Day Citizen of the Year has been awarded to Adele Britton.
Mayor Kons said “Adele’s service to the Burnie RSL Sub Branch is outstanding. She represents the heart and soul of the RSL Club, fosters inclusion and inspires her committee members to go the extra mile to ensure financial viability and longevity in the community of a local institution.”
The 2020 City of Burnie Senior Citizen of the Year has been awarded to Barry Burge.
Mayor Kons said “ Barry has become a ‘face” of Burnie’s Visitor Information Centre. Giving visitors to our region a sense of place; showing the care and passion residents have for Burnie, he willingly passes this vast knowledge of Burnie and the North West Coast onto new volunteers and young work experience students.”
The 2020 City of Burnie Young Citizen of the Year has been awarded to Jacob Glover.
Mayor Kons said “Jacob is a young man who has always portrayed dedication, hard-work and passion to every endeavour. Jacob is to be commended on his inspiring proposal, which he presented to Council in 2019, for a Pump Track and Mountain Bike Circuit for Burnie.”
The 2020 City of Burnie Community Event of the Year has been awarded to the 2019 Burnie Show.
Mayor Kons said “The 100th Burnie Show was a huge success, to get an attendance of 20,000, at a green field site was outstanding. The amount of work put into this show was phenomenal. The Burnie Show is now leading the way amongst agricultural shows.”
The Burnie Australia Day Special Committee noted the very high quality of nominations again this year and agreed to present additional awards to - - Lifetime Recognition Award for Services to the Community to John Duncan and - Lifetime Recognition Award for Services to the Community to Ray Jensen.
