The City of Wanneroo is urging City residents and people from across Western Australia to contribute to an online survey on a potential holiday park at Mindarie.
The beachside site is the former Quinns Rocks Caravan Park off Quinns Road.
Director of Corporate Strategy and Performance, Noelene Jennings said the survey is an important opportunity for the local community and those living further afield to contribute ideas to the decision making and planning process.
“The site is a prime coastal location with enormous tourism potential and it is crucial that we hear a range of views from everyone,” Mrs Jennings said.
“The City’s aim is to create a destination of choice for locals and visitors which generates local jobs through tourism and further enhances the City’s reputation as a fantastic place to live, work and enjoy recreational activities.
“It is essential to understand the views of our community on how we can best showcase the wealth of natural and built attractions the region has to offer locals and visitors.
“We have carried out extensive community engagement to help inform our business planning for this project and this community survey is the next step in gathering further feedback.
“The community survey is progressing well with almost 600 responses submitted so far with roughly half of participants City residents and the remainder from the wider Perth metropolitan and other areas,” Mrs Jennings said.
The City is encouraging people to contribute their views and have a say before the 14 February deadline.
Destination Perth, the region’s peak destination marketing organisation for promoting Perth and surrounding areas was excited that the northern corridor was investigating more must-visit attractions.
Destination Perth’s Chief Executive Officer Tracey Cinavas-Prosser said development of a holiday park would provide the region with an important tourism venue.
“Attracting visitors from domestic and international markets is crucial to realising the tourism potential of a site,” she said.
“Visitors to Perth are searching for a range of accommodation choices and often want to stay close to the beautiful coast, which the area is renowned for.”
Ms Cinavas-Prosser said that tourism was a key economic driver and a new holiday park would provide local jobs and support local businesses.
“Destination Perth’s role is to build awareness, increase visitor spend and length of stay, all of which need to be supported by offering good quality accommodation and we are excited to see the potential for this site explored.”
The survey closes 14 February and the City is strongly encouraging residents, ratepayers, businesses, industry groups and potential visitors from across the City, Perth metro and country areas – to have a say.
