Be part of Karralyka’s 40th Birthday celebrations, soak up the sounds of Music in the Park and enjoy a free movie screening under the stars – it’s all part of this year’s Celebrate Maroondah events during February and March.
A fun fixture on Maroondah’s annual community events calendar, Celebrate Maroondah this year promises everything from music to games, laughter and relaxation.
Mayor, Councillor Mike Symon, said the three events each provided a great opportunity for residents of all ages to enjoy.
“Our free Celebrate Maroondah community events are fun, family-friendly celebrations of what’s great about the City of Maroondah,” Cr Symon said.
“There are three upcoming events, one in each ward. Every event is a little different and gives residents the choice of a fun afternoon or evening out, as well as the chance to meet their Ward Councillors and find out what’s happening in their local area,” he said.
Celebrate Maroondah events Music in the ParkThe first Celebrate Maroondah event for your diary is Friday 7 February with Music in the Park taking place from 6pm on the picturesque lawns of Wyreena Community Arts Centre, Croydon.
Bring along a picnic hamper and rug and settle into a relaxed evening while taking in the R&B and soulful tunes of gospel-charged group, SOUL.
Come along and meet your Wyreena Ward Councillors and enjoy pre-entertainment activities including the Wyreena playspace, face painting, bubbles and children’s games.
There will also be an opportunity to purchase something from the Conservatory Café.

Immerse yourself in all the colour, action and entertainment of this wonderful outdoor summertime event as we ring in 40 years of live theatre and community events at Karralyka, Mines Road, Ringwood.
Kicking off from 11am on the Karralyka outdoor lawn, soak up the party atmosphere with live music and entertainment featuring The Daryl Mackenzie Band, Chart-Topping 80s tribute band, ABC’s Lah-Lah’s Big Live Band, and Dave O’ Neil as master of ceremonies.
Head on over to the ‘Side Show Alley’ for a magic fairy show, reptile experience, free face painting, interactive games, rides and music for the whole family.
There will be food trucks on site, and of course, free birthday cake!
Free Movie NightA Free Movie Night is the last Celebrate Maroondah event on Saturday 14 March for the Arrabri Ward.
What better way to spend a summer evening than outdoors watching a movie under the stars.
Bring along your own picnic and movie snacks and enjoy a free screening of Director Jon Favreau’s computer-animated remake of the 1994 animated Disney film, The Lion King, at Gracedale Park in Ringwood East.
The movie will commence at dusk, at approximately 8.15pm. Families are welcome to turn up early for pre-movie activities, from 6.30pm, including face painting, inflatables, art and children’s games.
There will also be a free sausage sizzle, with ice-cream and coffee available for purchase.
“Celebrate Maroondah is a great excuse to get out and about with family and friends and enjoy Maroondah with a fun no-cost day or evening out. Plus, it’s always nice for my fellow councillors and I to chat to residents in a relaxed atmosphere,” Cr Symon said.
Entry to all events are free, and no bookings are required.
Please note: that in the case of extreme weather, events may be cancelled.
