Chair of the Benalla Rural City Australia Day Advisory Committee Cr Barbara Alexander AO today announced winners of Benalla Rural City’s Australia Day Awards.

The Benalla Performing Arts and Convention Centre hosted celebrations from 11.30am where 23 nominees for awards were announced. The award winners were:

Benalla Rural City Citizen of the Year - Brad Hearn Benalla Rural City Young Citizen of the Year – Willow Plex Benalla Rural City Community Event of the Year – Devenish Anzac Tribute Day Benalla Rural City Community Group of the Year – Devenish Community Group

Achievement awards were also presented by district Australia Day Committees across Benalla Rural City:

Benalla Achiever of the Year – Bruce Every Benalla Young Achiever of the Year – Melanie Stretton Devenish Achiever of the Year – Kevin Mitchell Goomalibee Achiever of the Year – Maureen Cottam Goorambat Achiever of the Year – Alan Saunders Lima/Swanpool Achiever of the Year – joint winners Sjoerd and Marilyn Bakker Molyullah Achiever of the Year – Geoffrey Hill Thoona Achiever of the Year – Anthony Rak Warrenbayne Achiever of the Year – Ken Heywood

Cr Alexander said the nominations received demonstrated the commitment and dedication that exists within the community.

“The Australia Day Awards recognise the achievements of community members who give their time and skills to many aspects of community life,” said Cr Alexander.
