Council is inviting community members to join Cardinia Shire representatives marching in this year’s Midsumma Pride March in St Kilda, Sunday 2 February 2020.
The Midsumma Pride March is now in its 25th year and celebrates Victoria’s LGBTIQ+ community. The march will commence at 11am from Ian Johnson Oval, and follow the kilometre-long route along Fitzroy St.
Revving up the rally is the much-loved pre-march procession by Dykes on Bikes followed by thousands of marchers led by Midsumma’s Rainbow Aboriginal Pride.
The celebration will continue after the march inside Catani Gardens. Marchers can enjoy the afternoon festivities of a seaside soiree, fine food and drinks, and the cultural celebrations of queer communities, all beside the sounds and performances on the Summa Pride Stage.
Cardinia Shire Mayor Councillor Jeff Springfield encouraged residents to show their support and join the celebrations alongside family, friends or partners.
“Attending this event is just one way Council and community are striving for equality, fostering a sense of belonging for all people within our shire and demonstrating our support for our LGBTIQ+ community,” Cr Springfield said
“It is important for me to stand up and show my support for all of my friends, my family and community. Everyone has a right to feel safe, respected and secure within our society, regardless of how each of us may choose to express and identify ourselves in this world.
“We would love to see a strong contingent of walkers representing Cardinia Shire. The LGBTIQ+ community and friends, parents, family and supporters of the LGBTIQ+ are very welcome to walk with us!”
The Cardinia Shire marching group will be in Wave P assembling at the Ian Johnston Oval by 11.30am.
