Join us for an uplifting morning and help celebrate unique and inspiring women as we host our annual Maroondah International Women’s Day breakfast on Thursday 5 March 2020 at Karralyka.
Come along and hear from this year’s inspirational guest speaker – author and Love Your Sister charity campaigner, Hilde Hinton.
Hilde, big sister of Love Your Sister founders Samuel and the late Connie Johnson, was affectionately known as the ‘other sister’. Through the trauma endured by her family she was always there, in the background, taking care of everyone and anyone who needed a helping hand.
The Love Your Sister charity has so far raised more than $10 million for cancer research.
Maroondah Mayor, Cr Mike Symon, said supporting International Women’s Day (IWD) was one of the many ways in which Council actively encouraged and promoted equality.
“Maroondah is a strong supporter of women in leadership and those who inspire others in the face of adversity, and we are delighted to have Hilde Hinton as this year’s motivational guest speaker,” Cr Symon said.
With much encouragement from her brother, Hilde is now following her own passion – writing.
Her debut novel, The Loudness of Unsaid Things, will be released in March. It is an unforgettable story of loneliness, isolation and finding your way.
Hilde will be sharing stories of her family’s journey, the Love Your Sister phenomenon, and their plans to keep fighting so that in the future other families will not face the same goodbyes.
“The IWD Breakfast is open to the entire community, so feel free to bring a friend, make up a table or simply come along to hear some words from our inspiring speaker and enjoy a breakfast amongst friends,” Cr Symon said.
Love Your Sister merchandise will be available for purchase following the breakfast.
The theme of this year’s International Women’s Day is #EachforEqual.
