Work will start on Monday 3 February on a $720,000 upgrade to the Mildura Waves change rooms.
The project will focus on the family, women’s and men’s change rooms and represents the biggest upgrade to the change facilities in more than 20 years.
Councillor for Recreation and Sport Glenn Milne said the works will transform these facilities, providing the community with an all-new experience once completed.
Cr Milne said the major upgrade would be carried out in a staged approach to ensure change room and shower facilities were accessible at all times throughout the works.
Key upgrades include:
All change rooms:
replace existing cubical partitions, wall tiling, fittings and fixtures new full-height wall tiling new LED lighting new paint new resin flooring Family change rooms: separate cubicles for family changing improved access new partitioning system Men’s and women’s change rooms and amenities: remove bench seating in change room new shower layout to maximise the number of cubicles new ceiling height, level with existing exhaust vents replace timber bench seating with new, more durable recycled plastic seating grab rails to some sitting locations for the elderly and disabled replace the open shower arrangement in the men’s change rooms with cubicles to improve privacy, particular for children. The upgrade will not only improve user safety and comfort, but will be low maintenance to ensure lower running costs.
Work is expected to be completed by mid-to-late August 2020.
Cr Milne said the works are the second stage of a much needed major refurbishment for the Mildura Waves facility.
Council completed the first stage in May last year, which included replacing the filtration system for the swimming pools, wave pool and spa, repainting and carpeting of the gym area, replacing gym equipment, and internal painting of the pool hall and associated steelwork.
“Mildura Waves is our flagship community and recreation facility, however it was built more than 20 years ago and is sorely in need of a new lease on life,” Cr Milne said.
“A lot of the high-use areas are showing signs of deterioration, are dated and becoming increasingly difficult to maintain.
“This program of works will address these issues, providing a better experience for users of the facility now and for 20 years to come.
