Mayor George Brticevic and General Manager Lindy Deitz yesterday turned the first sod on construction of the new Bunnings Warehouse on Blaxland Rd.
Spanning over 17,000 square metres, the new Bunnings Campbelltown will be more than 5000sqm larger than the existing store at Kellicar Rd and will employ approximately 70 additional team members.
The development represents an investment of over $40 million and is expected to be complete by mid-2021.
Cr Brticevic said creating local jobs was an important part of Council’s Reimagining Campbelltown City Centre Framework.
“I’m really excited to that 70 new jobs will be created in the centre of Campbelltown catering for people with trade skills and expertise as well as young people,” Cr Brticevic said.
“Bringing a major hardware retailer into the heart of our business district will have a knock on effect for other businesses who will see the benefits of increased visitation to the area,” he said.
General Manager Lindy Deitz said Campbelltown continues to go from strength to strength as the business hub for the wider Macarthur region.
“Our city is at the centre of one of the fastest growing populations in the country,” Ms Deitz said.
“Bunnings’ expansion is a signal to everyone that we are open for business and there are many great opportunities within the Campbelltown CBD for businesses looking to invest,” she said.
Bunnings Regional Operations Manager Robyn Hudson said Bunnings was excited to bring a bigger and better offer to Campbelltown customers and invest in the local community.
“Bunnings’ further investment in the Campbelltown area will provide additional job opportunities for local residents and school leavers. All our team members from the existing Campbelltown store will transfer to the new store once complete and will continue to provide local customers with the best service,” she said.
