York has been successful in its application through DFES and the State Government as part of the Royalty for Regions scheme for a $481,250 Fire Mitigation grant under the Mitigation Activity Fund.
The “MAF” is awarded to Local Governments who have an endorsed Bushfire Risk Management Plan and who have identified assets at High, Very High or Extreme risk of bushfire.
This is our second round of Fire Mitigation funding and our contractor has already started.
The works consist of:
Extension of the fire access tracks and fuel reduction (slashing/mulching) along the Avon River. Installation of a dry weather crossing point over the Avon River for emergency services vehicles. Upgrading of fire access tracks and fuel reduction (slashing/mulching) on Mount Brown. The works will both reduce the fuel load (and therefore the likelihood and severity of a fire) and increase accessibility for Emergency Services Vehicles in the event of a fire.
The Shire of York would like to thank and acknowledge the Office of Bushfire Risk Management - DFES, for awarding the Shire these funds and looks forward to making York an even safer place for the future.
