Come along and discover the new Urunga Library and celebrate Library Lovers Day all at the same time at the official opening of the newly refurbished Urunga Library between 11:00am and 11:30am on Friday 14 February 2020.
Bellingen Shire Council Mayor, Cr Dominic King, said Council’s successful grant submission had secured $153,260 of funding from the NSW Public Library Infrastructure Grant Program to fund the refurbishment of the Library.
“These funds have supported our ongoing efforts to provide our community with accessible and inclusive library facilities that cater for the disabled, the elderly, young families and children.”
Cr King said the refurbishment featured new mobile shelving units, a flexible floor plan to cater for community events, installation of a unisex, accessible toilet to current accessibility standards and the relocation and lowering of the customer service desk to improve accessibility.
“A highlight for me is the vibrant children’s area of the library which features new modular seating, child-friendly book tubs and brightly coloured furniture and I’m sure this area will be put to good use throughout the year and during our School Holiday and Christmas activities.”
“We recognise our library networks popularity and that’s why we will continue to invest in their emerging roles as community hubs where people, information, ideas and technology are brought together.”
