Barkly Regional Council hosted the Australia Day Breakfast and Flag Raising Ceremony and our first Citizenship Ceremony for 2020.
The MC for the day, Councillor Jeffrey Mclaughlin and Traditional Owners Jimmy Frank & Francine McCarthy started the proceedings with a 'Welcome to Country'.
We congratulated Rosemary Plummer for being recognised for her service for the Territory's indigenous community with a Medal of the Order of Australia.
We are proud to welcome our new citizens, Mrs Jinmei Lei, Mr Morris Saunyama, Miss Hannah Saunyama, Master Jayden-Li Saunyama, Mrs Princy George, Mr George Thoompumkal and Carol Sj Pulumbarit. Congratulations to you all!
The day's Australia Day Award winners in Tennant Creek were:
- Student Citizen - Coen Wortley

- Young Citizen of the Year - Nicole Civitarese
- Sportsperson of the Year - Michael Jones
- Volunteer of the Year - Kevin Stout - Senior Citizen of the Year (Female) - Kathy Muir
- Senior Citizen of the Year (Male) - Ray Wallis - Citizen of the Year - Mike Nash
In Elliott, the Award winners were:
- Community Event - Kulumindini Didingarna - Elliott Hawks
- Sportsperson of the Year - Phillip O'Keefe
- Volunteer of the Year - Wayne (Grumpy) McLean
- Citizen of the Year - Lennie Barton
- Senior Citizen of the Year - Johnny Devlin - Young Citizen of the Year - Teigan Kingston

All up, with the triathlon, the Ruger (one mile) Run and the Family Day at the pool it was a terrific day for all.
