Liverpool City Council has urged the NSW Government to build new schools it has promised to deliver in the Liverpool Local Government Area.
The schools include a high school and primary school in Edmondson Park and new primary schools in Liverpool and Marsden Park.
The schools have all been promised by the NSW Government but have no start or finish dates.
“We have been in discussions with the Department of Education for a long time on these schools and we’re ready to work with them,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.
“But things need to get moving. The community is crying out for more quality education options.
“South West Sydney is full of parents wanting the best for their children. Many schools in the area are at capacity. Something has got to give – and we hope it will be the State Government.”
Edmondson Park residents were particularly frustrated by the wait for schools in their area, Mayor Waller said.
“Edmondson Park is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Australia and has an urgent need for local schools. Residents can’t be expected to just keep waiting indefinitely for this sort of essential infrastructure.”
Mayor Waller repeated her call for the State Government to choose Liverpool as the site of a proposed new selective high school in South West Sydney.
“Quality education is alive and well in Liverpool – last year Liverpool Boys High School was named Secondary School of the Year at the Australian Education Awards,” she said.
“But resting on our laurels isn’t an option. We can’t wait for the schools of the future.”
