Regional Bike Network Grants a Win for Pedestrians and Cyclists

News of three successful grant applications for new bicycle pathways within the Shire of Augusta Margaret River will inject over $250,000 into the budget, enabling improvements to the local bicycle pathway network.

Acting Director Infrastructure Services, David Nicholson said the additional funding would allow the Shire to address missing links in the pathway network.

“Regional bike network grants provide an opportunity to address some of the larger more complicated missing links, through the availability to gain financial support for planning, design and construction.

“We are thrilled that all three of our applications in the 2020-2022 grant round were successful,” he said.

Awarded projects and amounts include:

$11,250 in 2020-21 and $20,000 in 2021-22 for design and construction of 292m of shared path of the Brookfield Estate Access to Wadandi Track project $18,370 in 2020-21 and $43,630 in 2021-22 for design and construction of 293m of shared path of the Bussell Highway Shared Path project $41,500 in 2020-21 and $116,850 in 2021-22 for design and construction of 970m of shared path of the Station Road to Bussell Highway shared path project.

The Western Australian Bicycle Network grants program is an initiative of the Western Australian State Government; administered by the Department of Transport aimed at increasing safety for people on bikes, providing connection and access to strategic destinations and increasing cycle tourism opportunities.

Through this grants scheme the State Government matches funds with local governments who have successfully applied for the funding to assist with planning, design and construction of bicycle infrastructure.   For further information please contact the Shire on 9780 5255.
