Bush Bursary Scholarship students on the ground in Yass

Yass Valley has had the honour of hosting both a medical student and a nursing student from the University of Notre Dame under the Rural Doctors Network Bush Bursary scholarship placement program.

Yass Valley Council is a contributor to the Scholarship and hosts the placement of students each summer.

Giselle Capacchione is in the second year of her medical degree, a post-graduate course. Giselle is keen to become a rural GP and is Co-Chair of the General Practice Students Network (GPSN) at her university.

Giselle enjoyed her two weeks in the beautiful Yass Valley during January, particularly the opportunity to meet the community as well as work with rural health practitioners.

Lucy Tisch-Lienert, a nursing student, was also on placement in Yass Valley in January. Lucy is one of the first nursing students in New South Wales to be awarded a RDN Bush Bursary scholarship.

Lucy is the President of the Notre Dame Nursing Society and relished the opportunity to collaborate with other health care professionals in the community.

Both students said learning firsthand about the challenges of rural healthcare was the best part of their placement.
