4 February 2020 - Media release
Hear how Gus Balbontin, inventor, adventurer and alternative futurist, will change your perception of business and address the relentless pace of the digital revolution.
Campaspe Shire Council, Murray Business Network and Small Business Victoria have joined forces to bring you the energetic speaker whose counterintuitive way of looking at the world will motivate you to do things differently.
Economic & Community Development General Manager, Keith Oberin said this is great opportunity for the business community to gain a unique insight that is sure to benefit you and your business.
“The evening is part of the Victorian Government’s Business Victoria Local Events Program, which delivers engaging and helpful business learning, networking and upskilling events to Victoria’s small businesses,” Mr Oberin said.
Gus was born and bred in wild Patagonia and moved to Australia when he was 17.
By the age of 22, he had dropped out of university, travelled, set up his own business and landed his dream job at Lonely Planet. He soon led the company globally, working with companies such as Google X, Nokia and Amazon on the latest technology, creative cultures and high performing teams.
Seeking a change from corporate life, he hung up his boots and decided to move back to his entrepreneurial roots, becoming an investor, founder and mentor across the start-up ecosystem in Melbourne.
“Momentum is the ally of efficiency and productivity, but the enemy of re-invention. Be careful! Momentum can wreak havoc in your business,” says Gus.
Gus will make you laugh hard and think deeply about the puzzles of running a business in today’s world.
The keynote presentation will be held at the Moama Bowling Club on Wednesday, 19 February at 5.45pm.
Tickets are free to MBN members and $95 for non-members and are now available from www.mbn.org.au with ticket sales closing on Friday, 14 February.
Additionally, Council has organised for Gus to present to local secondary school students where he will highlight his career experiences and instil the value of entrepreneurship and innovation.
