Council meeting recorded for public 4 Feb 2020 11:05 AM -

In an effort to ensure community members are better informed about Council matters, Lachlan Shire Council is making recordings of its Council meetings available to the public.

The recording of Council meetings is now mandatory under the OLG Draft Code of Meeting Practice. Council adopted the code in 2019 with the recording of all Council and Council Committee meetings, commencing last month.

Council held an Extraordinary Meeting of Council on Wednesday January 29 which was the first time a Council meeting was recorded in its entirety.

That recording has been uploaded to Council’s website and can be found at: http://www.lachlan.nsw.gov.au/council/council-meetings/business-papers.aspx

Lachlan Shire Mayor John Medcalf OAM said Council meetings are where the important decisions which affect the community are made and Council has a duty to be transparent and share the content of these meetings with Shire residents.

“The audio recordings will enable even greater transparency between Council and community, enhance accessibility to Council decision making and further allow residents to be better informed and involved,” the Mayor said. “Should residents not be able to attend a meeting, these recordings will enable residents to keep up to date with Council decisions from the comfort of their own home.”
