Pack a picnic, bring a blanket and experience a screening of Peter Weir’s iconic film Picnic at Hanging Rock under the stars on Saturday 15 February.
Filmed in 1975, Picnic at Hanging Rock is based on the 1967 novel by Joan Lindsay that details the story of three schoolgirls and a teacher who go missing at Hanging Rock on Valentine’s Day in 1900.
Mayor, Cr Janet Pearce said the film night was a great annual event celebrating an enduring local story.
“Picnic at Hanging Rock is a fascinating tale, full of mystery, tragedy and suspense,” Cr Pearce said.
“It is fantastic that audiences have the opportunity to see this classic movie outdoors and on the big screen, in the exact location where it was filmed all those years ago.
“Watching the sun set behind the Rock and sitting out under the stars as this hauntingly beautiful film plays is really an experience you won’t forget.”
Filmgoers should bring along their own picnic or supplies, as there will be no food or drink available for purchase on site.
It is best to bring along a chair, a rug or something to sit on, as there is no public seating provided and bring a jacket or blanket as well, as it can become very cool after sundown.
Filmgoers are advised to pre-purchase tickets. Tickets can be bought at the gate on the night with cash but there are no EFTPOS facilities.
The gates open at 7pm and screening will be at dusk, around 8.15pm.
