Last month, Mareeba Mayor Tom Gilmore convened a round-table meeting with Member for Cook Ms Cynthia Lui and other agencies to address the community perception of an increase in juvenile crime and anti-social behaviour in the Shire.

“Following expressions of concerns from the community at what appears to be an increasing level in juvenile crime in the community, I called a meeting with Ms Lui, law enforcement and child safety departments to seek clarity on the situation and a sensible response,” Cr Gilmore said.

Mayor Gilmore acknowledged that the matters are a State Government responsibility; however the meeting was called as an opportunity to seek a way forward.

“Ms Lui agreed to convene a second meeting seeking a whole of Government response to the issue and we have generously made the Council boardroom available to her to facilitate this,” Cr Gilmore said.
