Ashburton Volunteer of the Month program launches for 2020
Shire of Ashburton 6 Feb 2020

Returning to the Shire of Ashburton’s community calendar for 2020 is the successful Volunteer of the Month program.

Launched in 2016, the Volunteer of the Month program is aimed at encouraging a stronger and more connected community and gives recognition to the individuals and groups who build vibrant, healthy and active communities.

Shire President Kerry White acknowledged the importance of the program in the Ashburton community.

“Volunteers and committees are the cornerstone of a thriving social and cultural environment in our community”, said Councillor White.

“Our community heroes help create diversity, by sharing their experiences and knowledge, and in turn have a positive impact on living in our region.

“As part of the program I would also like to encourage people to volunteer and to become an active member of our community.

“In making yourself available to volunteer, it opens up opportunities to meet new people, to grow your own social networks, learn new skills and help others.

“Since the program began we have awarded over 100 hardworking volunteers and groups have been recognised through the program to date across our towns of Tom Price, Paraburdoo and Pannawonica with support from our community partners Rio Tinto”.

“Starting this year I am pleased that we are able to extend the program to our Onslow community members with our Working Together for Onslow partners Chevron also coming on board to recognise the dedicated volunteers that keep our communities vibrant and active”.

“Nominations are now open. Simply complete the online form on our website or in person at any of our facilities across the Shire”.

Thanks to our community partners Rio Tinto and the Chevron-operated Wheatstone project for their continued support in making Ashburton a vibrant and robust place to life.
